The Wick Country Park has received a mention in the Anglers mail. Sam Gray aged 13 caught a record breaking perch for the lake. A photo of the event is shown below.

PAWS in the Park 2011
Despite the rain 550 people (and as many dogs) came to the Wick Country Park last Sunday for the annual Paws in the Park. Yes it was wet, yes it was cold, but whew what a success! Dog lovers are clearly a hardy breed. 115 dogs entered the fun dog show and many received rosettes. Congratulations to Poppy for winning 'best in show' and taking home the cup.

The craft activity and mugs of steaming tea in the pavilion were very popular particularly when the rain was at its heaviest. The ice-cream van and the candy floss vendors had a less successful day! We are very grateful to all stall holders who took the weather in their stride and for their donations which will be used in the development of the park. Also a big thank you to all the helpers, the PA man, the Judge and compare, and a huge pat on the back to the committee who made it all happen.
If you would like to see photos of the dogs and lots of wet weather gear check out our gallery on this website.
For professional photographs of the day go to www.headsplustails.com click on Galleries & Events then click on Paws in the Park.
At the end of the day we raised £400 and enlisted 6 new members and proved that the park can be enjoyed in all weathers!

The Wick Country Park & The Year Ahead 2011
In the year ahead our aim is to keep you informed as to what has been seen in the park, particularly birds, butterflies and moths, animals and plants. Hopefully with this information you will be able to have a greater understanding of what you see as you walk around and enhance your pleasure.
We aim again to run a number of events throughout the year so please check regularly on this site what is happening. Through events you have supported, we have been able to purchase a notice board which is placed by the entrance to the park, giving details of forthcoming events. Furthermore, we hope to raise sufficient money for not only another notice board to be placed by the main gates but also information boards that will be strategically placed around the park to enhance your knowledge on the flora and fauna around you.
We look forward to your support and hope that you continue to enjoy your time in the park.
Grassroots Funding 2009

As a result of the grassroots funding, the picnic tables were finally and successfully installed, being ready for a sunny Mother's Day picnic. Hopefully as the seasons progress and everything comes into bloom, visitors will be able to enjoy a peaceful and sheltered bite to eat but also be able to take stock of all that the Park has to offer and the views across it.
Grassroots Grant Application Success
The Friends of the Wick Country Park are very pleased to announce that we have recently been awarded a Grassroots Grant to enable us to purchase five picnic tables, all of which are fully accessible by wheelchairs. We have been working very hard behind the scenes, in partnership with Basildon District Council's Countryside Services, to make The Wick Country Park much more attractive, and welcoming to visitors. We have already bought and had installed a notice board which we use to display notices of forthcoming events and information about the park. This next phase of our project has been funded by Grassroots Grants, which is funded by the Office of the Third Sector (OTS). As part of the Cabinet Office, the OTS leads work across Government to support the environment for amongst others, voluntary and community groups - and that's where we come in! The picnic tables will be situated in the park to enable visitors to take full advantage of the views and all that the park has to offer. It is hoped that the tables will be installed in the Spring and will be fully utilised in the Summer of 2009. So, make a note in your diary, pack your picnic bag and come along to The Wick Country Park for a pleasant break in the Essex countryside. We look forward to welcoming you.
