JANUARY JAUNT & AGM, JANUARY 15th 2017

Eighteen participants joined Park Ranger Mark for a gentle stroll around the Park, though the grey, damp, miserable weather and the lure of the mince pies, mulled wine, not to mention the AGM, persuaded us to take a bit of a short-cut back to the Pavilion! We were commenting just how beautiful and peaceful the Park looked, even though it was not exactly sun-bathing weather! A full report on the day can be found in the February 2017 issue of our Skylarks newsletter. Nikki's report to the AGM is available via this link.

Doesn't the Park look enticing - even in January!

Some of the group being shown the 'in-line pond' - part of the North Benfleet Brook - by the Ranger, Mark. He explained that if you are very quiet and very lucky then you may spot a kingfisher or a little egret from this Bridge. Note that not all the group were human - Peter and Linda's sweet little dog enjoyed the walk too!

From left to right: Stuart and Martin scan the flock of black headed gulls on the lake to see if they could repeat last year's sighting of a mediteranean gull amongst them, while Peter, on the right, looks on.

I could not resist posting this lovely picture of the lake in winter. The ice that had formed a few days earlier had still not fully thawed.
